Year 5 - Blog 1
For Year 5, the topic of the First World War was brought to life by a visit from the Chinnor War Horse with his owners who were happy to answer our questions about horses and equipment used in the war. We use the story, War Game by Michael Foreman, to learn about life for soldiers in the trenches and the hope of peace that the Christmas Truce brought. We used the experiences described in this story to write our own diary entries and stained them to look authentic.
We have also had an inspiring visit to Christ Church Cathedral, not only seeing the Great Hall that we recognized from Harry Potter films, but learning about the story of St Frideswide and her commitment to serving the poor and needy in Oxfordshire.
