At St. Andrew’s we are passionate about making Design Technology as engaging and as creative as possible. We are committed to nurturing our future designers, engineers, inventors and chefs. This year we are focussing on child-led learning, encouraging our students to take the lead across the Research-Design-Make-Evaluate design process. We hope to further inspire children by giving real-life design problems and exploring the work of famous British designers and inventors.

We will

  • Provide children with rich opportunities to develop their creative, technical and practical expertise through cross-curricular teaching.
  • Provide opportunities to build and apply their knowledge, understanding and skill to make high-quality prototypes and products.
  • Provide opportunities for children to critique, evaluate and test their ideas.
  • Provide children with opportunity to learn how to cook and learn about nutrition.

 

FS- Foundation Stage have been asking the question: Can you build a bridge out of pasta and dough? Well done FS, the answer is a resounding YES!

Year 1- We've made stockings! We loved creating different patterns and textures on them. We practised our sewing skills and our outcomes were wonderful!

Year 2- We are learning all about The Great Fire of London and we will be designing and creating emergency vehicles! We are very excited to learn about how the vehicles move and experimenting with different designs.

Year 3- We have been making soup! We have been making sure that we learn good hygiene skills with preparing a clean area to cook from and washing our hands beforehand.

Year 4- We made Christmas cards! We loved exploring different designs and layouts.

Year 5- We have been building bridges and experimenting with materials for different strengths.

Year 6- We are finishing off creating our delicious quiches! We have been focusing on making healthy choices with our food and how to make pastry. We have also been focusing on safety in the kitchen when using knives and the oven.
