This December, our Year 3 students have been learning about the Christmas story and its significance with the RE Inspired team. As part of the session, they created Advent wreaths similar to those lit in church on every Sunday of Advent. The four candles on their wreaths symbolize hope, peace, joy, and love, reminding us all of the true spirit of the season.
In Literacy, the children have been learning about newspapers and have looked at different papers, identifying a range of features, such as headlines, captions, past tense verbs and quotations.
The Year 1 and Year 3 children recently joined forces to take part in a buddy reading session. The children shared stories and built relationships over their reading books. This activity can help support comprehension, along with developing a love of reading for pleasure. It is also a great way for different age groups to connect in the school environment.
We have been busy playing Times Table Rockstars on the iPads in the England Rocks competition. St Andrew's did really well, with a final place in the top quarter of schools that took part.
In Computing, we have been learning about coding through unplugged lessons. The children were given a simple task to complete, for example, get a "robot" to stack cups in a specific design. This exercise helps iterates the importance of defining a clearly communicated algorithm. These lessons laid the groundwork for the programming that the year 3 pupils took part in throughout the rest of the term of coding.
The Year 3 children worked very hard in rehearsals for our nativity ‘Lights, Camel, Action – It’s Strictly the Nativity’. They did an incredible job and we are super proud of them!
